Each city in Western Armenia (Central and Eastern Turkey) had its own melodic version of this song—a different tune matched with different verses of the song. This version is the Krunk (“The Crane”) of Butanya (or Butania)—an Ottoman city in the modern-day province of İzmit (Kocaeli). I have bolded the lines Hasmik sings in this version. This is the version recorded by Komitas, who traveled to Armenian communities all throughout Anatolia, collecting each town’s folk songs and dances. He often published his interpretations of the songs as adapted for a 4-part male choir: here is a choral rendition of Krunk performed by a French-Armenian choir.

The process of translation has never before bought me close to tears. But translating Krunk did. The meticulous (and hard) process of researching the meaning of words that are sewn through with Turkish and old dialects of Armenian is enough to make me cry. I even had to make use of two French translations of the song. I still don’t know what Teptir means—a city somewhere perhaps? It took me many a google search to discover the whereabouts of the lost city of Butanya (though in some ways it is found—there is a neighborhood in Yerevan named Nor Butania, “New Butania.”). But once I fully understood the lyrics, and listened to the song again, I thought, “If I could only offer one thing, this is the song I would offer to the rest of the world so that they might understand us.”

Bojnice Castle, Slovakia - rated as one of the 25 most beautiful castles in Europe

It is one of the most visited medieval Romantic castles in Slovakia with original Gothic and Renaissance elements built in the 12 th century and also being a popular filming stage for fantasy and fairy-tale movies.

Location on MAP : GPS: N48°46’48.15” E18°34’40.31”

Architecture : Gothic, Renaissance

Bojnice Castle was first mentioned in written records in 1113, in a document held at the Zobor Abbey, Nitra, Slovakia. Originally built as a wooden fort, gradually Poznan family. Its next owners included Matúš Čák of Trenčín ”Lord of the river Váh and the Tatra Mountains“, who received it in 1302 from the King Ladislaus V; 15th century - owned by King Matthias Corvinus, who gave it to his illegitimate son John Corvinus in 1489. Later owned by famous noble families (Zapolya, Thurzos). From 1646 on, the castle’s owners were the Palffys, who created today’s beautiful imitation of the French castles of the Loire valley. Today there is a museum (part of Slovak National Museum) and the castle is surrounded by the castle park, which contains the Bojnice Zoo (the oldest and one of the most visited zoos). The castle park continues in the form of a forest park in the Strážov Mountains.

The castle is renowned for its attractions, including the popular Castle Fairytale, the International Festival of Ghosts and Spirits, Summer Music Festival, Day and Night Tours and Special Christmas, Easter and Valentine`s Programmes. The romantic castle is also a popular location for filming fairy tale movies, such as Fantaghirò. It hosts the single most popular museum in Slovakia.

The unique blue tiles of Isfahan’s Islamic buildings, and the city’s majestic bridges, contrast perfectly with the hot, dry Iranian countryside around it, Isfahan is a sight you won’t forget. Not only is the architecture superb and the climate pleasant, but there’s a fairly relaxed atmosphere here, compared with many other Iranian towns. It’s a city for walking, getting lost in the bazaar, walking in beautiful gardens and meeting people. The famous half-rhyme Isfahan nesf-e-jahan (Esfahan is half the world) was coined in the 16th century to express the city’s grandeur. There’s so much to see that you’ll probably have to ration your time and concentrate on must-sees such as the Imam Mosque, a magnificent building completely covered in Isfahan’s trademark pale blue tiles; This mosque is situated to the south of Naqsh-e-Jahan sq. built in the reign of shah Abbas, tile work and architecture of this Mosque is amazingly superb. Its minarets Are 48 meters high. Naghsh-e-Jahan (world picture) Square, one of the largest town square in the world. The Chehel Sotun Museum & Palace, a marvellous 17th century pavilion and a great place for a picnic; this palace is another building dating back to the Safavid period, built amidst a vast garden covering an area of 67000 sq m. The building has a veranda with 18 pillars and a large pool in front of it. Being mirrored in the still water of the pool, the pillars create a beautiful view. The wall painting in the interior of the building is superlative in their kind.Ali Qapoo Palace Situated to the west of Naghsh-e-Jahan Sq. belongs to the Safavid period. It was used for the reception of the Ambassadors and envoys from other Countries. Ali Qapoo is a six-storied plasterwork and paintings of which are extremely impressive. and the Vank Cathedral, the historic focal point of the Armenian church in Iran. Taking tea in one of the teahouses under the bridges is also an essential part of the Isfahan experience. Isfahan is about 400km (250ml) south of Tehran.
